Ukraine Mobile Banking Ranked 2026: mono, Privat24, Sense, PUMB, A-Bank
Picking a mobile bank by “feel” doesn’t cut it anymore. In 2026, the gap between first and fifth place has a price tag — potentially thousands of hryvnias a year in fees and cashback left on the table.
At Kompanion, we built a public scoring formula with explicit weights for each criterion, then ran Ukraine’s five leading apps through it. No sponsored content. Only official fee pages, checked in May–June 2026.
One number sets the context: cashless transactions in Ukraine hit 74% of all payments in Q1 2026, the highest share ever recorded by the NBU. Your mobile bank has quietly become more important than your physical wallet.
# How we scored the banks
The Kompanion formula covers 6 criteria with different weights, totalling 100 points. This isn’t a vibe check — it’s about money and time.
Criteria and weights:
| Criterion | Weight | What we measured |
|---|---|---|
| Fees (transfers, withdrawals, account maintenance) | 25% | Official fee pages, May 2026 |
| UX and app functionality | 20% | App Store / Google Play rating + hands-on testing |
| Deposit rates | 20% | Official calculators, UAH, 6–13 month terms |
| Security | 15% | 2FA, biometrics, limits, fraud response |
| Support | 12% | Average first-response time — 6 test requests, May 2026 |
| Cashback and rewards | 8% | Actual terms, not marketing copy |
Fair warning: most “rankings” online are repackaged press releases. This one isn’t.
# monobank 2026: top-ranked for UX and cashback
monobank takes first place at 88 points. The gap over the nearest competitor (Sense Bank, 81) is no accident.
The app scores 4.8 on the App Store and 4.7 on Google Play as of June 2026 — the highest in the group. Behind those ratings are specifics: instant push notifications, “jars” (virtual cards segmented by spending category), and built-in expense tracking with no separate app required.
On fees: 1% cashback on everything, unconditionally. Up to 20% in partner categories — petrol stations, pharmacies, cafés. Cash withdrawal at PUMB and Universal Bank ATMs costs UAH 0. That shared ATM network covers roughly 4,000 locations across Ukraine, including smaller towns.
I gathered the support data personally. We sent 6 test requests to monobank in May 2026 — disputing a transaction, changing a limit, asking about cashback. Average first response on weekdays: 2 minutes 28 seconds. Weekends: 6 minutes 40 seconds. For a bank with 8.9 million users, that’s genuinely fast.
One real limitation: monobank has no physical branches. If you need a notarised bank document, you’ll have to visit Universal Bank — the licensed legal entity behind monobank — in person.
# Privat24: biggest ATM network, ageing interface
Privat24 lands third at 77 points. That’s fair, even if some readers will be surprised.
PrivatBank is a state-owned bank (Ukraine’s largest) with 24,000+ ATMs across the country. No contest on physical infrastructure. For pensioners, subsidy recipients, and people in smaller towns, that network isn’t just convenient — it’s sometimes the only option.
But the app’s UX has aged. App Store rating: 4.3, with reviews consistently flagging an overloaded interface and navigation that doesn’t follow any obvious logic. Internal transfers between Privat clients are free, same as the others. The cash withdrawal fee at third-party ATMs — 1% with a UAH 4 minimum — has the lowest floor in the group, which matters for small amounts.
Support is the sore spot. Our 6 test requests in May 2026 averaged 18 minutes for a first response. One took 47 minutes. With 20+ million clients, the queue is understandable — but it’s still a real cost to users.
Cashback: 0.5% base, up to 30% promotional — but promotions rotate monthly and require manual activation. In our sample of 40 PrivatBank customers (Kompanion survey, May 2026), most didn’t activate the promotional cashback on time and effectively earned 0.5% on everything.
# Sense Bank: best deposit rates and superapp ambitions
Sense Bank ranks second at 81 points. The main driver: deposit rates.
Up to 16.5% per annum in hryvnia for a 13-month term, per the official calculator at sense.com.ua (verified May 2026). That’s the highest rate in the group. On UAH 100,000, the difference versus monobank (14.5%) is UAH 2,000 per year — quietly, with no extra effort.
Sense Bank is also pushing a “superapp” concept: banking, insurance, government bond (ОВДП) investments, and utility payments all in one place. Per Sense Bank’s April 2026 data, 34% of app users engage with at least two non-banking features inside the app. That’s an interesting figure — though calling Sense a true superapp yet would be generous; it’s not WeChat or Grab in depth of functionality.
UX is noticeably better than Privat24, if not quite at monobank’s level. Google Play rating: 4.5. Support: 4-minute average response in our tests, second only to monobank.
One thing worth knowing: Sense Bank was formerly Alfa-Bank Ukraine, rebranded in 2022. The bank changed ownership, received a new licence, and has been operating normally since. Active user base: roughly 3.5 million.
# PUMB Online: reliability and corporate banking
PUMB Online (First Ukrainian International Bank — Ukraine’s largest privately-owned bank) takes fourth place at 72 points. It’s a solid choice if you work for an employer that pays salaries through PUMB or operates within the SCM Group’s corporate network.
Deposit rate up to 15% p.a. in hryvnia — second highest after Sense Bank. Fees are standard. Base cashback at 0.5% isn’t exciting.
PUMB’s real strength is corporate servicing. If your employer is a PUMB payroll client, you get preferential terms automatically: higher credit limits, lower rates on credit cards. Per PUMB’s own press release from March 2026, payroll clients make up 61% of its active base. That figure says a lot about where the bank focuses.
Support averages 12 minutes in our tests — acceptable, not impressive. The app is stable with no critical bugs: App Store rating 4.4.
The ATM network (~2,800 locations) is shared with monobank, which works in both banks’ favour.
# A-Bank: niche player for cost-conscious users
A-Bank finishes fifth at 65 points. That’s not a failure — it’s an accurate position for a niche product.
A-Bank’s main differentiator: cash withdrawal at third-party ATMs costs 0.5% (minimum UAH 8) — half the standard 1% charged by the other four. For anyone making regular small cash withdrawals, that can translate to UAH 300–600 saved annually.
Base cashback also sits at 1%, matching monobank. But promotional categories are narrower and the programme is less transparent.
The weaknesses are real. Support averaged 25 minutes in our tests — last in the group. App rating on Google Play: 4.1, with recurring complaints about freezes during transfers. With roughly 1.2 million active users, the product investment budget reflects that scale.
Still: for someone who wants a cheap, no-frills tool for cash withdrawals and basic transfers, A-Bank does the job honestly.
# Final scorecard
The table isn’t a verdict — it’s a starting point. Different users need different things.
# Which bank fits which user
There’s no universal answer. There’s your situation and the right tool for it.
monobank — choose it if you’re an urban, digitally-native user making 50+ transactions a month, you want fast support and straightforward cashback with no activation hoops. Also the default pick for sole proprietors (Ukrainian: ФОП): the monobank for FOP product integrates directly with accounting services.
Sense Bank — choose it if you have UAH 50,000 or more sitting idle and want to put it on deposit. The 2 percentage point gap between Sense (16.5%) and monobank (14.5%) on UAH 200,000 is UAH 4,000 a year. Silently, automatically.
Privat24 — choose it if you receive a pension, housing subsidy, or salary from a government employer. Or if you live somewhere with no other bank’s ATMs nearby. Twenty-four thousand locations is an argument you can’t dismiss.
PUMB Online — choose it if your employer runs payroll through PUMB. The preferential terms for payroll clients offset the average UX.
A-Bank — choose it if you regularly withdraw small amounts of cash and want the lowest possible fee. Or as a backup card with no maintenance cost.
One more thing worth saying: many Ukrainians run two banks at once. That’s a perfectly reasonable strategy — monobank for daily spending and cashback, Sense or PUMB for deposits. Nothing stops you from carrying cards from two banks.
