This section is for people who live abroad and handle their affairs in two countries. There you need a residence permit, a tax number, a bank account and a job. In Ukraine you still have a bank card, a deposit, a loan, a sole trader business (FOP), an apartment or a car. We write about both sides and do not mix up the rules of different countries.
How to use this section
Choose a country first. Then choose a task: legal status, documents, work, taxes, benefits, money. Task pages are added gradually, so the country menu shows only the ones that are ready. We do not link to pages that have not been written yet.
What is the same for every country
Some questions concern Ukraine, not your country of residence. The answers are the same wherever you live:
- Transfers from abroad to an individual: limits and financial monitoring
- Ukrainian sole trader (FOP) abroad: taxes, residency and the simplified tax system
- Wise in Ukraine: transfers, exchange rate and fees (in Ukrainian)
- Revolut in Ukraine: opening an account and limits (in Ukrainian)
- USDT or SWIFT: which transfer is cheaper and when (in Ukrainian)
- Car customs clearance: how duty, excise and VAT are calculated and the customs clearance calculator
- Today’s National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) exchange rates
How we check the information
We take country rules from primary sources: the texts of laws and the websites of ministries, tax authorities, employment services and social insurance bodies. Every page with rules lists its sources and the date we last checked it. Migration rules change often, so the page also shows the date of the next check.
Kompanion is a publication, not a law firm. We do not say that a lawyer reviewed a page if that did not happen. If your case does not look like a typical one, contact an official authority in that country or a lawyer who practices there.
