This page is about money in Poland: your account, deposit protection and transfers to Ukraine. For the affairs you still have in Ukraine, our general guides will help.
What do you need to know about money in Poland?
- Account. Banks that open accounts for consumers must provide a basic payment account in zloty; credit unions (SKOK) have this obligation only toward their members. The bank cannot require other contracts or a certain amount of incoming payments together with it. We explain how to open one and what to do after a refusal on a separate page.
- Deposit guarantee. The Bank Guarantee Fund (BFG) guarantees deposits up to the equivalent of €100,000 per depositor at one bank, for all accounts together. Money in both zloty and foreign currency is protected, but it is paid out in zloty; the limit is converted into zloty at the average exchange rate of the National Bank of Poland. Payouts start within 7 working days after the guarantee is triggered.
- Identification. The BFG does not guarantee deposits of people for whom the bank does not have full identification data.
