This page is about money in Czechia: your account, deposit protection and where payments arrive. For the affairs you still have in Ukraine, our general guides will help.

What do you need to know about accounts, deposits and payments?

Legal stay in the EU gives you the right to a basic account, deposits are guaranteed up to €100,000, and for the humanitarian benefit you need an account in Czechia specifically.

  • Account. The law explicitly gives the right to a basic payment account to temporary protection holders and asylum applicants, as it does to everyone who stays legally in the EU. How to open one and what to do after a refusal is explained on a separate page.
  • Deposit guarantee. The Financial Market Guarantee System covers 100% of deposits up to €100,000 per client at one institution: at banks, building savings banks and credit unions. Compensation payouts start within 7 working days.
  • The humanitarian benefit is paid only into a payment account at a bank in Czechia; it is not transferred abroad.
  • The Ukrainian pension for temporary protection holders is paid only into a current account at an authorized bank in Ukraine.
